Garrett Newton is a gifted young banjo player from Eastern North Carolina. At a young age, he began attending local bluegrass picking sessions and quickly became enamored with the traditional bluegrass sound. He has devoted significant time to learning the history and absorbing the recordings of the first generation of bluegrass artists, and it clearly shows in the style and drive of his banjo playing. Newton may not have a lot of years under his belt but he is one heck of a talent, and the Garrett Newton Band highlights the best that bluegrass has to offer. The current release, YOUNG HEART, OLD SOUL (Pinecastle Records), showcases how raw talent paired with veteran bluegrass musicians offers a new sound that is sweet music to the genre. Their single “Country Poor and Country Proud” is currently charting on both the Bluegrass National and Roots Music Report charts.
