The Denison University Bluegrass Ensemble (Granville Ohio) is comprised of exceptional student performers with all levels of professional and personal musical experience. Under the direction of Adam Schlenker, the DU Bluegrass program strives to cultivate an interest in traditional American roots music within new students, as well as advance knowledge and performance skills in students wishing to major/minor within the school's bluegrass degree. Each band member also upholds individual responsibility as an outstanding liberal-arts student, thriving on balancing a demanding interdisciplinary schedule while actively participating in music lessons, performances, jam sessions, and involvement within the local and extended community. Throughout the program's existence, members have had the pleasure of performing at venues across the United States, sharing the stage with artists including The Special Consensus, Ricky Skaggs, The Lonesome River Band, Tim O’ Brien & Bryan Sutton, Alison Brown, Blue Highway, and Bobby Hicks. Following the liberal arts philosophy, students can immerse themselves in their music studies via a major or minor, or they can stay connected to the music they love while majoring in a separate discipline, making the Denison experience unique for every student.
