The Clemson University Bluegrass Ensemble, known as Tigertown Roots, was formed in the fall of 2017 by Performing Arts major Ryan Wilson and music professor Mark Hosler. A for-credit music ensemble class in Clemson’s Department of Performing Arts, the band is open to all students. Participating students can earn general education credit and satisfy elective hour requirements for any major. Private lessons on bluegrass instruments are also offered for credit. In addition, students can major in Performing Arts with a bluegrass instrument as their primary instrument and play in a bluegrass band to satisfy ensemble requirements. The Performing Arts Bachelor of Arts degree program prepares students for many careers in the arts with a curriculum that offers separate concentrations in music, audio technology, and theatre. Students can also minor in music and play bluegrass to satisfy the private lesson and ensemble requirements.
